About

Super Structure is a Tokyo hardcore band that has been active since the late 1990s, building a cult following through raw demos and relentless live shows in the city's underground circuit. The band channels the best of 1999-era metallic hardcore -- think Turmoil, Fall Silent, early Dillinger Escape Plan, Botch -- and filters it through a distinctly Japanese intensity. The lineup features Hellbyrd on vocals, Masafumi Atake on bass and vocals, Yudai Miyamoto and Takeshi on guitars, and Kohei on drums. Their discography follows a chronological naming scheme: Demo 1997, Demo 1998, and the LP debut "1999," which was originally released in Japan in July 2019 through BHI before receiving a US vinyl pressing via DAZE. The LP title is a deliberate nod to the watershed year that produced "Calculating Infinity," "We Are the Romans," and "0:12 Revolution in Just Listening" -- and Super Structure hold their own in that lineage. Tracks like "Despair" open with churning metallic riffs before spiraling into frantic, panic-chord mathcore territory. For a band that has been at it for nearly three decades with only a handful of releases, Super Structure's reputation rests almost entirely on the ferocity of their live performances and the uncompromising quality of what they do commit to tape. No filler, no padding, just Tokyo hardcore distilled to its most volatile form.
