Seeping Protoplasm
Tokyo's filthiest late-90s Midwest death metal revivalists -- Waco Jesus and Lividity worship filtered through Asakusa Deathfest pit violence.
About
Seeping Protoplasm formed in late 2021 with one clear directive: recreate the crushing, low-end bludgeoning sound of late-90s Midwest US death metal. Vocalist Adam Jennings, guitarist Makoto Arakawa, bassist Wataru, and drummer Masa worship at the altar of the United Guttural catalog, early Waco Jesus, Lividity, Skinless, and Mortal Decay. The band records at studios across Tokyo -- Bazooka Studio, Orpheus Studio, and Void)))Lab -- with mixing and mastering by Inari Ryuhi. Their output has been relentless. The Profound Torment demo landed in 2022 (recorded in Akiba, featuring a Master cover). The debut full-length Exhale Extinction followed in May 2023 on Headsplit Records -- eight tracks of pulverizing old-school death metal that earned releases on CD, cassette, and through distros worldwide. Split EPs with Rottenness (2023, Obliteration Records) and Nyctophagia (2025) kept the momentum. Their sophomore album Repugnant Entanglement dropped February 2026 via Iron Fortress Records (CD), Headsplit Records (tape), and Sewer Stench Records (vinyl), with artwork by Natsumi de Dianous. Live, Seeping Protoplasm is a pit-starter. They have appeared twice at Asakusa Deathfest and shared stages with Toxic Holocaust, Cryptic Shift, and Gut Explosion, performing both domestically and internationally. They operate out of the DISMANTLE! label ecosystem based in Chiba/Tokyo. This is no-frills, no-gimmick brutal death metal done with genuine devotion to the genre's ugliest roots.
