About

SCAMP (スキャンプ) is one of Tokyo's underground institutions, a band that cracked open a violent seam between hardcore punk and psychobilly in the early 1990s and never let it close. Their sound is a whiplash collision of buzzsaw guitars, pounding drums, and a snarling upright bass (woodbass) that gives the whole thing a greasy, unhinged momentum. Vocalist RIKI commands the frontline with raw, throat-shredding delivery that owes as much to GBH as it does to The Meteors. The lineup has included RIKI on vocals, HIROSHI (ex-ROBIN) on guitar, TAKESHI on woodbass, and the prolific IRON FIST Tatsushima on drums — a figure who has left his mark across the Japanese underground through stints in numerous hardcore and metal acts. That pedigree shows in the tightness and intensity of SCAMP's recordings. After a long hiatus, the band returned with 音で殺せ!! (Kill It With Sound!!) in 2012 on DIW/PHALANX, their first full-length in roughly two decades, packing 13 tracks of unrelenting crossover. They followed it with 天に向かって唾を吐け!! (Spit at Heaven!!) in 2016. Their influence runs deep — bands like HELLBENT and BATTLE OF NINJAMANZ cite SCAMP as a direct catalyst. They remain one of the essential names in Tokyo's crossover hardcore lineage.
