RYDEEN
Yokohama DIY hardcore punk lifers running their own label, their own venue theme songs, and their own rules since 2002.
About
RYDEEN formed in 2002 in Yokohama, built around the restless energy of drummer Masaaki "Captain" Sweden (also known as Koba Sweden), who went on to found Fade In Records, a DIY punk hardcore label that has become a staple of the Yokohama underground. The lineup has shifted over the years but centers on Captain on drums and vocals, KYC on guitar and vocals, and Takehisa on bass and vocals -- a three-piece where everyone sings and nobody holds back. The band's discography stretches from their first demo CD-R "Live & Loud" in 2003 through a steady run of releases: "You Are Not Me," "Be a Hero," and the 2009 album "AAAA" -- their last full-length for sixteen years. They cut the single "MARVELOUS" in 2020 as the official theme for El Puente, a Yokohama livehouse, and dropped the single "Phantom DAYZ" in 2023. The long-awaited album "What a Wonderful World" arrived in 2025, compiling recordings from 2020 to 2025 into a sprawling document of a band that never stopped even when the records weren't coming out. RYDEEN's connection to Captain Sweden and the broader network around Fade In Records ties them into a web that includes collaborations with UK bands like Stupids and splits with Fukushima's Friday. They describe their sound as "living room hardcore" -- unpretentious, direct, and built for the floor, not the stage. Yokohama's answer to the question nobody asked but everybody needed.
