About

REDSHEER formed in 2013 from members of ex-Atomic Fireball, ex-Scalene, and ex-Bucket-T. The core lineup is Riuji Onozato (bass/vocals) and Satoru Yamaguchi (guitar/effects), plus a drummer. They describe themselves simply: 'We create dark, emotional music. From Tokyo, Japan.' That undersells it. Their sound traverses hardcore, sludge, and post-rock, never settling into one for too long, driven by Onozato's tortured vocals and Yamaguchi's layered effects. Their debut album Eternity dropped in 2015 on Till Your Death Records. Since then they have been prolific with splits and collaborations: a split 7-inch with NoLA on Break The Records (2016), split CDs and 7-inches with BB on Hello From The Gutter (2017), a split LP with Melbourne's SUNDR on Trait Records (2019), and the Heartbreaking Noiserocking split with Sunday Bloody Sunday (2019). Studio Chaosk in Tokyo, run by Kubo Takanori, has been their home base for recording. Their latest full-length, Afterglow, was released November 2025. REDSHEER is embedded in the Tokyo heavy underground, connecting the dots between hardcore, doom, noise rock, and atmospheric heaviness. They share bills with acts like Abiuro, Worship Pain, and weepray at events like Convinium, and have hosted international acts like SUNDR on Japanese tours.
