About

Originally formed in 1991 under the name Noukasuitai, the band rechristened themselves Slight Slappers in late 1993 and immediately locked into the manic, blastbeat-driven powerviolence sound they've been perfecting ever since. Based in Tokyo, they emerged alongside the mid-90s global powerviolence wave and earned international credibility early, landing a split with Capitalist Casualties in 1995 and releasing material through Chris Dodge's legendary Slap-a-Ham Records. Over three decades of activity, Slight Slappers have built a discography of splits, EPs, and LPs that reads like a who's-who of the worldwide PV/grind underground -- Yacopsae, Hard Ons, Lebensreform, and more. Their 2017 LP "Sweet Power Violence" on RSRec/HAP distilled the formula: sub-minute bursts of chaotic thrash, lurching tempo drops, and an intensity that hasn't dimmed since the Clinton administration. The "Vinyl Collection 1995-2001" tape on Revulsion Records documents the early output that put them on the map. They remain one of the most influential bands in the Japanese underground hardcore scene, regularly playing Tokyo's tight-knit network of livehouses. In a genre where most bands flame out in two years, Slight Slappers have been doing this for over thirty -- no gimmicks, no reinvention, just relentless powerviolence from the source.
